Point/Counterpoint With Stan & Dave: SO Penalty Issues
It's been a very eventful series of debates between Stan Fischler and I so far.
In our latest edition of Point/Counterpoint, I suggest that players who finish overtime in the penalty box should not be allowed to participate in the shootout.
Stan, on the other hand, has a wacky idea.

stan you gotta start showing kolb some respect. so far hes had a better argument and side for all these debates and your only comeback is to make fun of him.
why should a player not be penalized for taking a penalty with ten seconds left in ot? if he takes a penalty with ten seconds left in regulation the penalty carries over to overtime, why shouldn't it do the same for a shootout?

Kolb is right. If a penalty is taken at the end of OT there has to be a way of making the player pay...this would be a great solution.

that's a novel idea dovid i mean david. perhaps mr. fischler can visit the myhshl conference in late august and discuss new myhshl policies with mike davidman and joseph nathaniel rotenberg.

Will have to agree, I actually thought that was a rule in place already. I think addition of rule like that is no brainer.

not a bad idea by kolb, but the bigger question should be why are there shootouts in the first place???

1) Is this segment supposed to be an actual discussion or just silliness? From the looks of things Stan can't/didn't propose a counter point other than he wants the staus quo. Thats fine, but include a why.
2) We always say in OT as the seconds wind down to tackle the other guys. Its not like it matters. Well, change the rule/punish the team that breaks the rules and it WILL matter!

Kolb is right. No question. I need to buy a vowel.

I have to agree with Kolb on this one. Stan, it's about time you start showing Kolb some respect. He seemed to have more convincing arguments on each of the points. Maybe it's about time for Kolb to start apearing on MSG more often. Perhaps an analyst seat on Hockey Night. I mean now that we have seen him out debate "the great one" (stan), it only seems right.

im goin with kolb on this one...there needs to be a rule in place preventing players from deliberately taking penalties at the end of overtime...however most of the last second takedowns of players rushing into the zone are by defensemen who most likely will not be shooting anyways
