Sharing the Excitement With the Kids at Rangers Camp
by: Marc Staal
Since my teammate Colton Orr informed me that he is blogging for the Rangers Youth Hockey Summer Camp, I wanted to say a few words about my day.
First, I want to tell all the campers attending that you are exciting and fun to coach. I was extremely impressed with all of your hard work today.
I learned a new drill called "Bulldog" and it is now my favorite (sorry Colton, I know "Superman" is yours). "Bulldog" is when the kids try to skate from one end of the ice to the other without getting hit by flying tennis balls.
Let me tell you, it is great to be the coach in this one since the kids seem to have so much fun with it. All of the campers were constantly laughing and the competition became intense at the end.
What's also great about this drill is the campers don't even realize they are learning to skate with their heads up and to be quick on their feet. This drill just shows how you can have fun, work hard and learn at the same time.
I am excited about putting the kids through different drills tomorrow and watching them grow as hockey players each day.
Marc
