The Sun Sets Over the Bronx
This very good article about Andy Pettitte takes a look at the difference between the '08 Yanks and the glory teams from a decade ago. I didn't realize that only four current Yanks (Pettitte, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada) have won World Series rings with the team. You learn something new everyday and I'd love to know how this team is going to make the playoffs. (NY Daily News)
Oops, We Did it Again
Just when things were looking really good in Queens, the Mets bullpen decided to remind the world that there is one humongous and potentially very tragic albatross hanging over this team's head. (NY Post)
Hixon Saves Giants WR Hex
It may have been a meaningless game, but for Domenik Hixon it might mean the world. The guy could go from the anonymity of being a special teams player to the semi-anonymity of being the Giants' third or fourth WR. (Newsday)
Favre Wants More Time, Rookie Wants Anyone to Care
Here's one of my favorites — it's 750 words dedicated to Brett Favre talking about wanting to play a little bit more in the Jets' third preseason game. Then at the end of the story there's this: "In another development, the Jets waived rookie free agent safety Nate Lyles." It's probably one of the worst days of Lyles' life, and all he gets is one measly sentence. (Star Ledger)
Yo-Yo, Ma
This article takes a fascinating look at competitive yo-yo participants. My favorite line: "If that is not enough to demonstrate just how much things have changed for the yo-yo, consider that a title contender from Singapore dislocated his knee during a preliminary round and was taken away in an ambulance." (NY Times)
