Poor Eli: Week 6
Quieting the naysayers
"Poor Eli" is a weekly compilation of quotes by both the media and fans about New York Giants quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning.
Despite his recent success, negativity and doubt have followed Peyton's younger brother since the moment he was traded from the San Diego Chargers to the New York Giants on draft day of 2004. Regardless of what he does or how well he performs – even in a league that lives and dies by the motto, "What have you done for me lately?" – he is questioned and criticized.
In Week 5 of the regular season, Manning was on fire. He completed his first seven passes and finished the first half with video game-like numbers. And despite being without the suspended Plaxico Burress, Manning led the Giants to a 44-6 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
Unfortunately for Eli, near-perfection still isn't good enough. When your last name is Manning, it's impossible to escape the criticism. And even when people cannot knock your on-field performance, they'll find something to attack.
This week, it's all about Eli's look, his condo and his rookie year.

"I'm pretty sure that around December of last year, the Manning's switched jerseys, and have not yet switched back."
Jay to the Son, Giants 101
"I think Eli misses [Plaxico Burress]."

"Why does Matt Ryan seem to be more advanced and even more polished than Eli was [at this point in his rookie year], given the inferior talent heapparently has around him?"
Nick, Smarter.com
"Since I'm an Eagles fan and he's the quarterback of the New York Giants, the hate was bred into me, but now that I found out he has the ultimate lazy man's house, I want to smack that dumb smirk off his face."
Nik Richie, TheDirty.com
"Look at his face, Eli Manning is not the smartest TOD (touch of downs) of the Manning family."
SJH, Nob Central
"[The Redskins have] a rookie punter Durant Brooks) who has, so far, been more erratic than Eli Manning."
