Browns' Winslow May Miss Giants Game
Avoiding a potential matchup nightmare
In my Giants/Browns Week Six preview, I noted that Cleveland tight end Kellen Winslow may cause the biggest matchup concern for New York on Monday night.
Well, as it stands, Big Blue may not have to think about Winslow after all.
According to Yahoo Sports! (via AP), the second generation tight end was hospitalized Thursday and kept overnight for evaluation after coming down with an undisclosed illness.
"He's a competitive player," Cleveland coach Romeo Crennel said. "We all know he has had some injuries that he has had to deal with and he's played through them, and at times we've had to manage him so that he can play through them. We know that he'll be out there (Monday) if at all possible. If it's possible that he can be there, he'll be there."
Injury and illness is not something any fan wishes on a player, but they'll always welcome a lucky break.
The Browns currently have one of the worst offenses in the league, so it would be even more devastating to be without their 1,000-yard tight end.
If Winslow cannot go on Monday night, he will be replaced by second string tight end Steve Heiden, who has 169 career receptions, with former New York Giant Darnell Dinkins also seeing increased playing time.
As of Friday afternoon, Winslow remains hospitalized.
