Everything You Wanted to Know About Brett Favre: Week 8
I cheat, too
by: Gregory Gethard
Brett Favre is tragically ignored by the New York media. As such, every week we'll seek out the latest and greatest in Brett Favre news and share it with you here on Game On!.
10,558 – That's the number of results my Google Reader set up pulled in for news articles on Brett Favre. Last week, that figure stood at 11,643.
Did he or didn't he?
Media reports are swirling that Brett Favre tipped the Detroit Lions off about his ex-team's playbook. Favre, naturally, has denied he took part in any form of subterfuge.
This is a very intriguing story. If Favre did indeed give the Lions everything he knew about the Packers' offensive strategy, then it ruins the integrity of the game. If every player who moved to a new team did this, football would be a mess. Teams would constantly have to adjust their calls, audible yells and the like every single week. Quarterbacks, before taking a snap, yell in an entirely different language than you and I speak. If teams had to change this every single week, someone would have to reinvent the Rosetta Stone so plays can actually be executed.
But on the other hand, if Favre did do as claimed, that makes him pretty awesome in a bad guy wrestler kind of way. This would be an incredibly petty move on Favre's part, based solely on a desire for vengeance against his former team.
Honestly, I would do the exact same thing in that situation. I once cheated on a nationally televised game show just to spite one of my opponents. I always act as banker during Monopoly games just so I can steal money. If I was traded to another team, I wouldn't just dime out the team's strategy; I would go to every single one of their practices to give advice in person.
This may not make me a good person, but revenge against people who have wronged me always makes me feel better. I'm glad I have something in common with Brett Favre.
