New York Jets Blog Roundup: Historic Win Over KC
Jets win, kind of
by: Gregory Gethard
Sometimes, a win can feel like a really bad loss. Yesterday's game was just that for Jets fans. Here's what they're saying:
"At the end of the fourth quarter, a diehard Jets fan called me and said that he knew we had won it. Kansas City had the ball with a minute left, down by four but he assured me there was no reason for concern. Why, I asked, shouldn't we worry? My friend answered knowingly: Brett Favre isn't on the field.
As he proved time and time again today, Brett Favre was the best weapon the woeful KC Chiefs had going for them. Once he left the field with a lead, there was nothing Kansas City could do to swing the game their way. Not that Brett didn't try."
"The oddsmakers listed the Jets as 14-point favorites in this matchup. Luckily for the Jets the league doesn't grade on style points. In a game marked by plays the Jets would like to have back, the Jets were able to score late in the 4th Quarter and beat the Chiefs 28 to 24."
"Jeesh, it was ugly. 11.5 favorites vs. a terrible Chiefs team, I still can't believe it. However, the Jets move to (4-3) and have a big game next week at (5-2) Buffalo. The Jets have to play much, much, much, MUCH better if they want a chance in that game next week. Still, despite playing so poorly, the Jets are only one game out of first place with the Patriots and Bills on the schedule during the next three weeks."
"While the Jets didn't make it easy, they were able to escape Sunday afternoon with a hard fought 28-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at the Meadowlands."
"The win today was the first time ever that the Jets or their Titans ancestors ever rolled up a minus-3 turnover differential in a home game – and won. After losing 44 (and tying one) of those games with a minus-3 or worse, the Green & White finally broke through today. Historic.
Let that sink in. It's kind of the worst of times and the best of times. Brett Favre throws three interceptions of the "what's-he-doing?" variety while the Jets defense and specialists can't turn the 1-5 Chiefs over even once."
