On the Hardwood: Rumors, Reports and Observations
Is Bobby Knight heading to Arizona?
As first reported yesterday on "The Tim Brando Show" on Sporting News Radio, an impeccable source told me that former Indiana and Texas Tech coach Bob Knight has serious interest in the vacant head coaching job at the University of Arizona.
Another prime candidate is Jamie Dixon of Pitt who has west coast ties and could see the Tucson campus as a perfect outlet to exit the rugged Big East.
Contrary to other reports, I'm told Gonzaga coach Mark Few would never leave Spokane for a job with the Wildcats.
THIS AND THAT:
- Heading down to Villanova on Tuesday and I'm very curious to see if Corey Fisher and Corey Stokes are capable of being the ying to Scottie Reynolds yang.
- The Knicks impressed with their opening night win over Miami. I enjoyed their unselfish play, but to be fair, there were points in the game where I wondered if the Miami Heat could beat an all-star team from the Yonkers rec league.
- Someone close to the Memphis program tells me John Calipari feels freshman phenom Tyreke Evans is better than he originally thought. That's scary because last year he was the consensus top player in the nation.
- I thought Marcus Williams would be an NBA star. Now he's getting DNPs playing for the Warriors. What's up Marcus?
