Pivotal Play: Jets vs. Bills
Jenkins and Elam kings for the day
by: Gregory Gethard
Kris Jenkins stood at the line of scrimmage, his back a mere 15 yards away from the endzone. The Buffalo Bills were only one play away from taking a commanding lead against their rival. Jenkins, a veteran defensive stalwart, knew that something must be done in order to keep the score close.
Bills QB Trent Edwards was in shotgun. As soon as the ball was snapped, Jenkins threw an uppercut into the chin of an offensive lineman. Jenkins' opponent flinched, and the nose tackle charged like a stampeding rhino. Soon, Jenkins was eye level with his target.
Edwards had to move quickly to avoid being gored by the flying Jet. He threw the ball towards someone — anyone — in blue and red. It hung in the air until a man in green, Jenkins' teammate, Abram Elam, stepped into the path of the ball.
The ball stuck in Elam's hands and he quickly stormed 92 yards down the field to the opposite end zone. Touchdown, Jets.
Jenkins didn't just keep the Bills from having the advantage on the scoreboard. His play enabled the Jets to take the lead, one the team would never relinquish.
