Kris Jenkins, MVP
An unusual suggestion for a big award
by: Gregory Gethard

Here's an interesting tidbit from CNNSI's Peter King. One of his MVP candidates so far this season is a name familiar to Jets fans:
5) Kris Jenkins, DT, New York Jets. The Jets have allowed foes to rush for a yard less per carry this year than last. The biggest reason they're 7-3, I would argue, is an overhauled run defense, led by new nose man Jenkins.
This makes a lot of sense to me. Jenkins is an absolute beast up front. Adding him to the Jets' mix is like adding baking soda to vinegar – he causes a reaction.
Want to run up the middle? Think again, running back, because you're being planted on your back, MMA-style. Want to sit back in the pocket too long? Enjoy getting your face buried into the earth, quarterback.
Defensive linemen are frequently overlooked in MVP voting. But Jenkins is the defense's alpha male. Without him, the Jets are just good, like Entourage. With him, they're 30 Rock.
