Jets Blog Roundup: Rex Ryan Hired to Replace Mangini
Gang Green gets their man
by: Gregory Gethard
So, the New York Jets finally got their man. Rex Ryan will steer Gang Green's ship. Will this decision work out? Well, it never quite seems to with this franchise.
Here's what the die-hard fans are saying about it:
"I didn't agree with the [Eric] Mangini firing, but I'm glad we picked up Rex. We still don't have a QB, but Ryan can make this defense a lot better than Bob Sutton ever could, and maybe Vernon Gholston won't be a complete waste of money."
"Praise the Lord."
"Now, we can finally get on to other things within the organization, namely how to improve a 9-7 football team and make them into a Super Bowl contender. The most pertinent offseason personnel question regards Brett Favre's future, and once Ryan is head coach, we can officially start to understand how Ryan ticks."
"Well, that really happened fast and yet very slow. I think it is a good hire even if he doesn't bring the Ravens defense with him. At least we'll blitz."
"The question is now is hiring Rex Ryan a smart move? Honestly, I was high on [Steve] Spagnuolo the whole way, but I am starting to drink the Ryan kool-aid. The guy is revered by his players in Baltimore, which is a collection of some of the best defensive players in the league. He is a fiery guy and plays a 3-4, which of course fits the Jets personnel. I don't think there is any question that he is a great defensive mind, is a respected coach, and will bring some much needed emotion to the Jets. On top of that, there won't be a need to sleep through press conferences anymore."
