Rex Ryan's Reference
It's a set-up!
by: Gregory Gethard
So, what sold the Jets on Rex Ryan? A job reference from Bill Parcells:
"Parcells called Ryan the day after the Ravens eliminated the Dolphins in the playoffs. He teased Ryan, noting it was just his first year in Miami and that he would 'kick your butt, kid,' in the future. But he also told him to use him as a reference."
I'm now unsure of how I feel about this hire. Bill Parcells is the Garry Kasparov of professional football. He knows the game cold. And if he sees something inRyan, then that goes a long way in solidifying Ryan's chances. Maybe, just maybe, he could be the man that could bring the Jets to Valhalla.
But, again, Bill Parcells is the Garry Kasparov of professional football. He's a master at the chess game that is professional football. To succeed, one needs to have the ruthlessness of a predatory animal. He's a master of manipulating players, the media and anyone else who can help him achieve greatness.
In other words, this could be a trap. Parcells runs the show in Miami. He has all the motive in the world to sabotage his old team.
But if Parcells' reference letter is all part of some dubious plot, it won't really change things for the Jets. After all, us fans of Gang Green are used to failure from our head coaches.
