Yankees Blog Roundup: Spring Training Vol. 1
Spring Training is finally upon us
Cold temperatures may still dominate the Northeast, but brighter skies have taken up residence over Florida. And with those skies have come America's favorite pastime ... Major League Baseball.
Spring Training is finally upon us and the quest for a 27th World Championship is now underway.
Here is what the Yankees online community is saying about the Bronx Bombers and the upcoming 2009 season.
Ben K., River Ave. Blues
"[Scott] Boras seems to play a dangerous game with his clients. He tried to steal the spotlight for Alex Rodriguez in 2007, and he completely misread the Manny [Ramirez] market this year. Teams seem to be getting wise to his dealings"
Peter Abraham, The LoHud Yankees Blog
"Andrew Brackman threw in the bullpen as well. No, there was no radar gun. But Jose Molina (who caught him) and the Yankees people who watched were all quite impressed. 'Outstanding,' third base coach Rob Thomson said."
Mark Feinsang, Blogging the Bombers
"C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Joba Chamberlain each threw side sessions in the bullpen, giving the Yankees a good look at their three power arms. The last time the Yanks had three guys in their rotation with this kind of power was 2003, when Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte and Mike Mussina each topped the 180-strikeout mark."
Kat O'Brien, On the Yankees Beat
"Jorge Posada threw (not at 100 percent) from 120 and 150 feet. He said he is feeling 'really good' and just working on strength. The Yankees don't plan to have him catch in games for about a month, both out of caution and because they can control the environment a bit more when not in games. He said he knows better than to do too much."
Steve B., Pride of the Yankees
"Pitchers and catchers have reported. On the field at Tampa, real live baseball players are stretching, training, throwing baseballs around. After we've slogged through all the non-baseball issues of the past couple of weeks, it just feels right, doesn't it?"
Nick Shlain, True Yankee
"Peter Gammons is such a Red Sox homer, that it's not surprising at all that he writes [about the Sox having the best staff]. But, I hope deep down somewhere that people realize that counting on a lot of innings from Tim Wakefield (42), John Smoltz (41, injured last year), and [Brad] Penny (injured last year) is a major risk the Red Sox are taking. Smoltz isn't even going to pitch until June, how does he provide depth?"
"A-Rod issues another apology ... he's a PR nightmare."
