Yankees Blog Roundup: Spring Training Vol. 2
Excitement is building in Florida
Cold temperatures may still dominate the Northeast, but brighter skies have taken up residence over Florida. And with those skies have come America's favorite pastime: Major League Baseball.
Spring Training is finally upon us and the quest for a 27th World Championship is now underway.
Here is what the Yankees online community is saying about the Bronx Bombers and the upcoming 2009 season.
Mike A. River Ave. Blues
"Thursday's and Saturday's [Yankees] game will be on TV. So that's right, in four days we'll get to see Phil Hughes make a start against the defending AL Champs, then two days later we'll see Joba-mania. Awesome. Just awesome."
Peter Abraham, The LoHud Yankees Blog
"[Jorge] Posada estimates he's at 85 percent. He wouldn't be close to 100 percent at this point in the spring even without having had surgery, so that is a good sign."
Jscape2000, Pinstripe Alley
"The truth is, I just don't see [Xavier] Nady as a full-time player in the Bronx. While his power numbers are on a three-year upward trend (supported by a rise in his LD%, so that's not just smoke; Nady has legitimately made better contact), he's only seen 3.66 pitches/PA over that stretch."
Mark Feinsand, Blogging the Bombers
"[Mark] Melancon looked good, facing a group that included Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano, Austin Jackson and Austin Romine. He got Jeter to swing and miss at a couple pitches, while Cano broke a bat on a four-seam fastball. I'm certainly no scout, but Melancon's stuff looked pretty impressive from my vantage point, which was behind the cage and about six feet to the right."
Kat O'Brien, On the Yankees Beat
"Edwar Ramirez had to shut down his bullpen session after five pitches because of tendonitis in his right shoulder. He's expected to be looked at by Dr. Allen Miller tomorrow. Ramirez felt a little discomfort, but said it's a feeling that he experienced in his last three appearances last season."
Greg Cohen, Sliding Into Home
"Bad news, guys. The Bleachers will once again be alcohol-free."
