Jeff Adrien, Force of Nature
He cannot be stopped
by: Gregory Gethard
Jeff Adrien ran down the court, full-speed ahead. He was ahead of the pack. His teammate threw him a pass, a bit off target. No matter. Adrien twisted in the air and caught the ball with one hand. He then, in the blink of an eye, pivoted, took one dribble and slammed the ball home with thunderous authority.
A tremendous amount of agility was needed to make this play. Only someone blessed with natural athleticism could manage to sprint, twist, catch and dunk. That alone right there shows the talent Adrien has.
But Adrien has much more than pure talent. He's also a giant among boys. He stands at 6'7", 243 pounds. NFL linebackers don't even have size like that. Heck, small cars don't even have size like that.
The combination of his size, strength and athleticism makes him one of the most feared players in the Big East. When he gets moving, it's like the Running of the Bulls in Spain. You can try to stand in his path. But he's just going to mow you down if you do.
This is exactly how UConn plays. They play a wrecking ball style of basketball. It's destructive. It's brutal. And it's downright scary.
And it's also extremely effective. UConn has been at the top of the charts all season long. Wins against the Huskies are major trophies for any team.
And it all starts with Adrien, the team's force of nature.
