The New York Liberty has acquired guard Sidney Spencer from the Los Angeles Sparks in exchange for the Liberty's first-round pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft, it was announced today by team president and general manager Carol Blazejowski. As per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Los Angeles has sent the first-round pick and forward Raffaella Masciadri to the Minnesota Lynx in exchange for guard Noelle Quinn.
Originally drafted by Los Angeles as the 25th overall pick in the second round of the 2007 WNBA Draft from the University of Tennessee, Spencer owns a 7.5 ppg and 3.0 rpg career average. Last season, the 6-foot-3 guard appeared in 33 regular season games with two starts, averaging 13.7 mpg, 5.3 ppg and 1.9 rpg. With a 38.3 three-point shooting percentage she capped her sophomore campaign ranked 11th in the WNBA amongst long range shooters.
New York's season will open on Sunday, June 7 at 4:00 p.m. against Eastern Conference foe, the Connecticut Sun, in front of the Madison Square Garden crowd.
