Liberty Hoopla: Nicole Powell to Compete in 2010 Haier Shooting Stars

Libs forward to participate in NBA's All-Star Weekend

Tagged as: New York Liberty, Liberty Hoopla, Nicole Powell, NBA All-Star Weekend, WNBA

A new Haier Shooting Stars champion will be crowned as teams representing Atlanta, Los Angeles, Sacramento and the state of Texas take the floor on Feb. 13, as part of NBA All-Star Saturday Night at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

For the first time in the event's history, TNT and NBA TV analysts will participate in the event, each serving as the NBA Legend on one of the four respective teams.

Team Sacramento is represented by the Kings' Tyreke Evans, who has won four consecutive Western Conference T-Mobile Rookie of the Month awards, and who headlines the 2010 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam Rookie Team; TNT and NBA TV analyst Chris Webber, a five-time All-Star, who averaged 20.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists over a 15-year career; and Nicole Powell, currently with the New York Liberty, who was a first-time WNBA All-Star in 2009 with the Sacramento Monarchs.

Devils Problems Are Correctable

Sending out an S.O.S. to the injured

Tagged as: New Jersey Devils Analysis, David Clarkson, Vladimir Zharkov, NHL, New Jersey Devils, Martin Brodeur, Patrik Elias, Paul Martin

Patrik Elias

Three wins, seven losses, and one shootout loss in the last 11 games for the Devils. Their season has taken a direct turn south with 27 games left to play, and just six more to be contested in a span of nine days before the Olympic break. They're sending out an S.O.S. to the injured Patrik Elias, David Clarkson, and Paul Martin (remember him?), who can't return soon enough.

The problems right now are all correctable, and it's hard not to agree with Jacques Lemaire when he says he'd be content with his team just keeping its head above .500 for the remaining games prior to the Olympic break that commences February 14.

Corey Stokes

  • If Corey Stokes continues to make big shots for Villanova the way he did in the second half of the Wildcats' win over Seton Hall on Tuesday night, Jay Wright will have a team capable of winning the National Championship.

I see Stokes playing the same role for Wright as Rashad Anderson played for Jim Calhoun when UConn cut down the nets in 2004.

On the Hardwood: Siena, Cornell Join Syracuse as Upstate New York Powers

Saints and Big Red are no joke

Jim Boeheim, you've got some company.

Ok, maybe it's not that serious, but upstate New York is no longer just a one team show in terms of quality college basketball.

In a year where Boeheim and Syracuse have a legitimate chance to win their second national championship in school history, two mid-major programs, Siena and Cornell, are making their own cases to be heard among college basketball's elite.

Rangers: Getting Something for Nothing

Blueshirts acquire Jokinen and Prust from Calgary

Brandon Prust and Olli Jokinen

Where is the National Hockey League Police when a steal has taken place?

(Kidding, of course!)

But if the Rangers' acquisition of Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust from Calgary is not – at least by stickhandling standards – a heist of the best (for Rangers) kind, then I don't know what is.

And I'm not Jokinen either!

In plain Brooklynese, the Blueshirts got something for nothing. Actually, you can make that plural; SOMETHINGS for zippo. Zero. Zilch.
