Favorites: Dave Scott
by: Tal Pinch

In the world of Ironman triathlons, there is everyone else and then there is Dave Scott, the six-time Ironman World Champion and self-confessed "simple man." Having finally caught up with Scott (which believe us, is hard), he shares some of his favorites, many of them coming back to his triathlon training. What we learn primarily is that triathlon is a year-round training regimen; a serious, strenuous life where relaxation means heading outside and only running five miles.
Favorite travel location – Virgin Islands.
Favorite place to eat there – Any place with local fresh fish.
Favorite gadget – I am a simple man with simple gadgets, but I have been using a heart rate monitor for the past 25 years. I currently use the TIMEX heart rate monitor. I also love to ride my fast carbon LOOK 598 time trial bike.
Favorite hobby outside of triathlon – I love to read and listen to music. I appreciate any eclectic mix of music, anything but hard rock.
Favorite training products – As a middle aged guy, my concern is with health. I use a pure form of Omega III (Omega Flex by Igennus). I am now more cognizant of fueling for training and racing and do not eat 12 bananas or 18 figs in a race as I did in the beginning of my Ironman days. Now I use Accelerade, a fluid replacement drink which contains a mix of carbohydrates and protein which improves my performance and enhances recovery.
And there you have it. A few simple steps that can help you become the ultimate Ironman (but ultimately won't).
